On 10 April 2009, anti-personnel mines placed in front of the wall of shame by the troops of the Moroccan occupation in Western Sahara, have 4 new victims during the course of a peaceful demonstration organized by the National Union of Sahrawi Women (UNMS) .

The four wounded, including two serious, were immediately evacuated by the sahrawi staff of the organization of Landmine Action to the National Hospital.

The incident took place at 10:30. Sahrawi youth did not hesitate to cross the safety limits set by the organizers. This shows how the people of Western Sahara is out of patience. The risk of escalation is certain if the international community does not act quickly to finally implement its own resolutions, in particular the achievement of self-determination referendum.

More than 2,500 participants from refugee camps in the region of Tindouf (southern Algeria) but'Espagne, Italy, France, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and Latin America have formed a human chain to show their support for the referendum on self-determination which should have put an end to 33 years of conflict between the Frente Polisario and Morocco, that country  illegally occupied the territory from the Spanish colonizers in 1975.  The United Nations Mission for the Referendum (MINURSO)  present on the ground since 1991,in Western Sahara and it has been unable to fulfill its mission.

The Association of Families of Sahrawi Prisoners and Disappeared (AFAPREDESA) condemns once again the existence of the wall built illegally by the occupying Moroccan forces in Western Sahara and urgently appeals to an international campaign for immediate clearance of the wall while awaiting decommissioning.
